Poetry

National Poetry Day

In 2020, we were asked by Stockton Libraries to create some videos for their National Poetry Day online celebrations. As we were in the depths of COVID lockdown at that point, we quickly seized on the opportunity to create something positive together that could show the world who we are. The ‘Sistras’ poem was written by Sarah Crutwell, and new members to the group are encouraged to write their own Sister Stanza to introduce themselves – and update it whenever necessary!

Festival of Thrift

Also in 2020, we contributed video poems to Festival of Thrift on the theme of ‘Energy’, which took us to subjects as diverse as renewable electricity, political protests, and super-active children! The poems were showcased on the Festival website as part of their digital programme, and Ann Cuthbert’s poem about wind turbines featured in the live broadcast on Festival launch day.

Feminist Book Fortnight

We have been active participants in Feminist Book Fortnight since 2018 thanks to our friendship with Stockton’s fantastic indie bookshop Drake, who provide us with a space for live performances and often donate us the feminist texts that we respond to with our poetry. In 2019 we had the pleasure of working with local filmmaker Jay Moussa-Mann, recording poems in response to everything from feminist podcasts to children’s literature.
