New Sisterhood

If 1980s memorabilia is your bag, get to the Dorman Museum this week for the last few days of the exhibition that accompanies our New Sisterhood project with Teesside Archives, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

You’ll see ephemera from the literary, feminist and LGBT+ activist scene in Cleveland circa 1985, plus some fun pop culture ephemera, brilliant poetry, vintage copies of Spare Rib and other radical feminist magazines to flip through, and a place to leave us your thoughts.

Can’t make it there in person? No problem! New Sisterhood is actually a community podcast and zine project. See below to listen to our fascinating podcast blend of spoken word poetry and first-person interviews with the women who were there…

…and read the digital version of our brilliant zine for poetry, personal testimony, collage art and zines from members of TWP, Hart Gables, Connect 360 and Tees Valley Women’s Centre.

Part 2

Were you active in women’s liberation during the 1980s? Teesside Archives would love to hear from you, especially if you have any memorabilia or ephemera from that time – magazines, posters, leaflets, minutes of meetings, etc.
