People-Powered Poetry!

Here at the TWP, we love a bit of visual art – we find it inspiring to write about, especially when it’s the kind of community-engaged contemporary art that the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art is committed to showing.

This summer and autumn, we will send two poets to be in residence at MIMA, responding to their ‘People Powered’ exhibition. Running from 22nd July to February next year, People Powered: Stories from the River Tees will be developed through commissions and community engagement and presents first-hand the rich and diverse lives of people who have shaped the River Tees alongside works from the National Portrait Gallery.

Are you a woman-identified poet living or working in Teesside who would like to become a TWP commissioned poet-in-residence? You have until 19th May to apply for these two paid roles:

Art Trolley Poet, delivering fun exhibition-inspired writing games to young people at the MIMA art trolley

Gallery Poet, involving gallery visitors in your process as you develop new work about the exhibition displays

Be sure to check out our sister Gail Henderson’s fantastic installation and film, a huge drawing on the walls of MIMA called Periskepsi. Gail makes incredible abstract self-portraits using pencil and charcoal. Her work will be up until 31st October.
